課程概述 |
This course, as the first part of the research course sequence for Social Work doctoral students, will provide an overview of the research questions and designs in Social Work which will be appropriately addressed using both qualitative and qualitative methods. These two distinct, yet complementary, methods are covered at all stages of the reserch process, while focusing a study, developing measurements, sampling, data collection and analysis, and finally, writing the reports. Various research knowledge and techniques will be reviewed in the assigned readings, and the issues involving social work research will be disscussed internationally as well as locally, so that the students will hopely become the critical consumers of research materials, and also the qualified producers of various research activities. |
課程目標 |
The goal of this course is to help students review a variety of approaches, methods and resources in conducting qualitiative and quantitative research, to strengthen their ability to critically examine research materials, and finally, to equip them with the capability to design a qualitative or quantitative reserch study which will be further refined in their second research course. They will also develop an awareness of the ethical and cultural issues in Social Work research, as well as the power sturggles in the research process. |
課程要求 |
Relevant articles will be handed out as the class proceeds in addition to assigned chapters of the textbooks. The students are expected to review all assigned readings before each class, and to actively participate the class discussion. Five paper critiques and a research proposal will be the course product.
